Incorporated in 1894, Pleasanton is a city in Alameda County, California. The city has a total population of 67,724. In 2005 and 2007, Pleasanton was the number one wealthiest middle-sized city in United States. In the year 2005, Pleasanton had a median household income of $101,022 which is considered to be the highest income for any city with a population of about 250,000 people. In 2007, the medium household income escalated to $113,345 which is also considered the highest income for any city.
The main headquarters of Safeway Inc is situated in Pleasanton. Offices of Oracle and Kaiser Permanente are situated in Hacienda Business Park. Also, the Alameda County Fairgrounds are situated in Pleasanton.
From the historical point of view, the town was founded by John W. Kottinger and named after his friend, Major General Alfred Pleasonton. In the 1850s, the town was also known as “The Most Desperate Town in The West? and back then was ruled by bandits and desperados.
Phoebe Apperson Hearst, the first woman Regent of the University of California, used to be the famous resident of Pleasanton. She lived in a 50 room mansion on a 2,000 acre. This site is now known as the Castlewood Country Club.
In the early 1980s, Pleasanton was largely associated with the development of a number of business parks. Hacienda Business Park is the largest and well known across the country. Pleasanton has one major regional mall known as Stoneridge Shopping Center.
Pleasanton is also known for its spirited downtown locality where you can experience all kinds of fine dining, specialty retailers and service businesses.
According to Newsweek, Pleasanton’s two high schools, Amador Valley and Foothill are among the top 400 high schools in the nation.
Carden West School and Hacienda School are some of the private schools situated in Pleasanton.
