Mice, Natural Moisturisers, Sodium Lauryl Sulphate and Your Health

Chances are you use a moisturizer every day. It’s a good idea to take care of your skin and there’s hundreds of different anti aging skin care products available. However it may be news to you that many skin care products, such as moisturizers which contain chemical ingredients like sodium lauryl sulphate, may be putting your health at risk, and that there are powerful reasons to use a natural moisturizer.

It is relatively well-known that a chemical called sodium lauryl sulphate is used in many soaps and shampoos.

It’s an excellent degreaser and is used by mechanics for degreasing engines. It is also becoming more well-known that sodium lauryl sulphate in products such as soaps and shampoos is bad for your health.

A study reported in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology about the effects of using a moisturizer on mice is deeply interesting.

The study was originally intended to study the effect of caffeine on mice, however as part of the study a moisturizer was applied to the skin of the mice 5 times a day for 17 weeks. The mice were also given doses of UV radiation to simulate sunlight.

The moisturizers used in the study all contained sodium lauryl sulphate as well as other chemical and petrochemical ingredients such as mineral oil.

The researchers were surprised to discover that the mice exhibited an increase in the risk of skin cancer and an increase in skin tumors of 69 percent.

Deciding to test this further the same researchers used a moisturizer containing no sodium laurel sulphate or mineral oil and this time they found that there was no increase in the rate of skin cancer in the mice.

Perhaps now you’re beginning to see the link between moisturizers, sodium lauryl sulphate and skin cancer and are beginning to wonder whether you should be considering a natural moisturizer next time you’re looking to buy your anti aging skin care products.

Or perhaps your even wondering about whether you should throw out the moisturizer that you may have used today.

The sad fact is that there is a wide range of chemical and petrochemical ingredients such as sodium lauryl sulphate used in so many of the big brand-name skin care and anti aging products that so many women use every day. There are many natural alternatives which make excellent moisturizers. There are many oils from various fruits and nuts that have excellent and well-known moisturizing properties, however these are not commonly used because chemical ingredients such as sodium lauryl sulphate and mineral oil are much cheaper.

They use natural ingredients which are known to be safe and highly effective at promoting optimum skin health and which will not put your risk of skin cancer.
